St Edmundsbury Cathedral in Bury St Edmunds stands on a site that has been used for workshop and pilgrimage for over 1000 years.  Edmund's death, King of the East Angles, led to the building of an abbey to house his remains.  St James' church was built within the Abbey precincts, becoming St Edmundsbury Cathedral in 1914.
