Description
Rutland Water is one of the largest man-made reservoirs in Europe and is located in Rutland, England’s smallest county. Set in 3,100 acres of countryside, the reservoir offers somthing for everyone in an exciting yet peaceful environment.

It has a 25-mile circular track for walking, jogging or running!  You can hire a cycle too or bring your own.

Rutland Water has an international reputation for sailing, trout fishing and bird watching and all these activities are open to day visitors.

Visitors don't have to be sailors or anglers to go afloat. Some of the best views are from the Rutland Belle as it manoeuvres around the action on its four mile cruise out of Whitwell Harbour.

If it's raining try a visit to the Normanton Church Museum then the Butterfly & Aquatic display and the Birdwatching Centre before relaxing in the Tickled Trout Restaurant overlooking the harbour at the Fishing Lodge. There are two childrens' play areas and every car park has ice creams on sale so move around the waterside trails and make the most of your day.

Close to the water's edge is an outdoor adventure playground called The Rock Blok with climbing walls and abseiling towers.

Designated as a European Special Protection Area and RAMSAR site.  An exciting new environmental display, viewing gallery plus In Focus optical shop and Wildlife Trust shop are located in the Anglian Water Bird Watching Centre at Egleton.

The first wild osprey in England for 150 years hatched at Rutland Water in 2001 and now regularly breed here. You can watch them in one of the 22 Bird hides and nature trails with experts to help you with identification.  A great site with over 150 sightings of different birds

Rutland Water also have their own sailing club which is a recognised facilities for training Olympic and national squads.

Please note that while Rutland Water is open throughout the year, the attractions are open between 1 April and 31 October.
