Description
Peterborough City Rowing Club in Thorpe Meadows in Peterborough has evolved into one of the country's leading rowing centres.

Events are held on the multi-lane course in June and August of each year, the 'Spring' and 'Summer' Regattas respectively, which attract rowers and scullers from competing clubs from all over the country. Every February the adjacent River Nene is host to the Head of the River Race which again attracts hundreds of entries.

Rowing does not discriminate. It is a sport for both sexes of all ages and physiques, it can be recreational or competitive, in single boats or crew boats.  Rowing cannot be classified as 'fairweather' sport - it is an all-year round activity which can be taken as seriously as the individual or crew wishes it to be.

Spring and Summer Regattas(races against other crews), and Winter Head of the River Races(timed processional rows) allow participants to remain competitive for twelve months of the year with the summer months seeing lots of 'water work' and the winter months being used for extensive land training to prepare for the next regatta season. The combination of these elements has one key result - year round fitness with the 'competitive edge' being retained.

With the 1000m rowing lake adjacent to the club coaching can be carried out effectively to prepare rowers and scullers for the racing season. Similarly, the extensive stretch of the River Nene naturally lends itself to training during the winter when preparing for the longer, processional Head of the River Races.
