Description
Opened in 1978, Ferry Meadows Peterborough forms the focal point of the larger Nene Park which stretches for 6 miles along the valley of the river Nene.   Ferry Meadows is set in 500 acres and has plenty of open space for games and miles of marked routes to explore by walking, cycling, running or horseback.  There are 2 fixed point orienteering courses and details are available from the Information and Visitor Centre.

Ferry Meadows forms part of the City Green Wheel cycle path, a bridle and cycle network around and into Peterborough.  The large open spaces provide plenty of room to play football or cricket or fly kites, or just spread out and have a picnic.   Ferry Meadows also has 3 play areas for children, 2 cafes and an information centre and gift shop.

The park has 2 lakes, one is used extensively for water sports, so have a go at sailboarding, dinghy sailing or try a paddle boat.  The Watersports Centre is open to all and you can hire dinghies,  sailboards, launch facilities as well as obtain tuition and courses leading to R.Y.A certificates.  A cafe and bar overlook the water with indoor and outdoor seating as well as a watersports shop with windsurfing and canoeing equipment

The other lake is home to numerous birds and local wildlife, and there is a wetland nature reserve with 2 hides,  plus the occasional tourist boat.  Both lakes provide ample opportunity for fishing.

The park also boasts its own minature steam train which will take you from one end of the park to the other, although it only operates throughout spring and summer and there is a small charge.  The minature train is no rival though, for the Nene Valley Railway steam trains which run through to the Park station (The Meadows) before moving on to Peterborough.

A caravan and camping site is located on the edge of the park and, although affiliated to the Caravan Club, it is open to members and non members, for those who want to spend a little longer.

Ferry Meadows also hosts a number of regular events for Peterborough throughout the year, as well as ad-hoc events.
