Cambridgeshire County Cambridgeshire's history is very interesting, in part dervied from the Fens cultivation, small towns such as Ely and St Ives and villages Soham and Godmanchester stand out on small hills against this primarily flat landscape. The legacy from the taming and controlling of the water ways is beautiful countryside with winding rivers and historic buildings, picturesque villages and many places to walk, cycle, or sail.Around the City of Cambridge is also rich in history with many archeological sites, historic buildings including Cambridge University and a plethora of museums. Encompassing the old county of Huntingdonshire the county lays host to a rich history of Oliver Cromwell.  The great man himself being born in Huntingdon, the son of a gentleman, and the county has many places of interest to visit that cover his life.  Cambridgeshire and Cambridge is renown across the world for its University, dating back to the early 13th century.
