Description
The Cambridge Film Festival has developed into a high profile event with a reputation as one of the UK's most prestigious and well-respected film festivals.

The Festival was originally conceived with a two-fold purpose: as a means of screening the very best of current international cinema; and to rediscover important but neglected film-makers and their films, which were either out of distribution or unseen for many years. These goals have been maintained in the Festival's main location, the 3-screen Arts Picturehouse, which is widely acknowledged as the most successful and well-equipped regional independent film venue and as a centre of excellence for film exhibition and education.  Cineworld Cambridge and The Junction have now joined the roster of Festival host venues.
The Festival's mission is to showcase the very best international cinema to the widest possible audience, by premiering and previewing outstanding new work as well as acknowledging cinematic classics through retrospectives and revivals. The Festival's acclaimed programme includes feature films, shorts, and documentaries from around the world, as well as a Children's Film Festival. The atmosphere is heightened by visits from actors and directors, parties and receptions, workshops and educational events, and spectacular outdoor screenings and drive-in movies.

Films receiving their UK premiere at Cambridge have included CRASH, MARCH OF THE PENGUINS, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, GOODBYE, LENIN!, SPIRITED AWAY, HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE, TALK TO HER, BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE, CATS AND DOGS, CRIMES AND MISDEMEANORS, BARTON FINK, RESERVOIR DOGS, THELMA AND LOUISE, and the THREE COLOURS trilogy; and scores of famous names have visited the Festival, such as: Cate Blanchett, Richard Harris, Joel Schumacher, Jane Birkin, Peter Greenaway, Alex Cox, Timothy Spall, special effects maestro Ray Harryhausen, Krzysztof Kieslowski, Philip Kaufman, Jeunet et Caro, and Hanif Kureishi.

The Cambridge Film Festival's main venue is the state-of-the-art three screen Arts Picturehouse cinema in the centre of Cambridge, with touring events also taking place at numerous locations across the Eastern region including Norwich, Ipswich and Ely.
