Description
The Cambridge Disabled Kids Swimming Club is aimed at kids of any age from birth to 19 with any disability. We offer the chance to enjoy swimming in an environment of tolerance and understanding. The session’s are run by a qualified instructor and a number of volunteers are there to help.  Parents and siblings of the disabled child are all welcome to come and take part.

The atmosphere is friendly and supportive and lessons are available.

There are a number of sessions at weekends.

The Castle School Hydrotherapy Pool

This  new session will be on a Sunday between 5 and 6pm.  The first session of the Autumn term will  be on 17 September 2006.   They will be aimed at the younger and less able children.  This is more of a fun session.  Mums and dads are free and can join their child in the pool!

We are only allowed a maximum of 25 people in the pool, so priority will be given to the children with special needs if we exceed this number. Rarely this may mean that siblings may only be able to swim for part of the session so as to allow everybody to have a turn.  Note that our other sessions are able to accommodate more people in the pool.

Chesterton Community College Pool

We will be starting a new session at Chesterton Community College on Gilbert Road on Sundays in starting on 10th September 2006 between 4 and 5pm. These sessions will be aimed at more able children (from 6 years upwards) with an objective of learning to swim.   A parent or sibling can go into the pool if necessary.   These will be structured lessons for those wanting to further develop their swimming skills in a deeper pool. It is recognised that the Abbey and Castle pools may be too shallow for older, larger children, so the Chesterton pool is also aimed at this group of children irrespective of their swimming ability. However if the child is particularly immobile, they may find the warmth of the Castle Hydrotherapy pool more comfortable.

The Abbey Pool

These are held at the Abbey Pool from 4.30pm till 6.00pm on a Saturday where there is a 25metre main pool, a large teaching pool and a sauna.    These are generally more informal sessions.    This is a family swim session and participants will also have the opportunity to receive swim instructions if they wish. All families are welcome and sessions are run through the school holidays.

OPENING TIMES :  Saturdays 4.30pm to 6.00pm Abbey Pool;  Sundays 4.00pm to 5.00pm at Chesterton Community College, 5.00pm to 6.00pm Castle School.
