Description

The Eleventh Annual Apple Day 22nd October 2007 10am - 4pm

A decade ago, the Cambridge University Botanic Garden led the way in celebrating the diversity of regional apple growing by initiating its Apple Day.  The event is now the largest in East Anglia, regularly attracting around 5000 people who come to taste and buy over 30 different varieties of unusual apples all grown in the Eastern region.

This year, to celebrate its 10th birthday, Apple Day will be bigger and better than ever before.

Apple cultivation and identification: Expert advice will be on-hand for those wishing to grow their own apples for the first time or renovate old apple trees, and a team of apple aficionados will be able to identify apples brought in by visitors.

Apple edibles: Local producers of apple edibles such as jams, juices, ciders, hot apple toddy even, will be encouraging visitors to try and buy.

Apple tasting and buying: With the help of tasting notes, visitors will be able to try over 30 different and unusual, locally-grown apple varieties before buying up their favourites.

Apple Day for children: Thanks to support this year from Waitrose, activities for children will run through the day and involve making and decorating an apple orchard and creating a huge apple mosaic.

Apple identification: Bring your own garden apples along to the experts.

Apple edibles: Juices, ciders, jams and jellies
